Torah for the Eyes
Torah for the Eyes is a woodcut series dedicated to the Five Books of Moses. Using the weekly readings, known as parashot, as a structure, the project is meant as a guide through the text, a primitive form of commentary. The motivation to make these images was based on the idea that every Jew has the potential for a personal relationship with the most important book in the world. The use of an expressionist graphic style to interpret scriptural stories and laws connects Torah for the Eyes, in my belief, to the tradition of printmaking as a radical communication process.
